09/24/08 – craft beers from the Schmaltz Brew Co
Winos,
If you were stuck on a desert island, and you could only have one alcoholic beverage, what would it be? (Mind you, this is a well-equipped desert island, with a fridge and plenty of glassware.) My hope, of course, is that a good many of you would choose wine. However, I’m happy to report that we’re not stuck on a desert island, and there’s plenty of time in this life for us to drink all kinds of hooch! In that spirit, the Young Winos embark this week on a tasting of delicious craft brews.
On Wednesday evening, we’ll be joined by Zak Davis of the Schmaltz Brewing Company (check ’em out here). We first met Zak at the LA Wine Fest, when a couple of our members had the opportunity to sample a few beers from the He’brew lineup. Zak will be bringing a mixed case of goodies for us to try… should be really edutoxicational, especially for those of us who don’t know too much about beer. The Young Winos will be charging a $5 fare for this tasting; part of this will go to Schmaltz, and part will be put towards our operating budget.
We’ll be meeting at Jason’s apartment in parking-challenged Brentwood. As always, the RSVP system functions like this: if you want in, you send me an e-mail the same day you received this one. Spots are assigned based on a complex algorithm which gives priority to long-term members but also reserves seats at each and every meeting for new people. If you’re denied entry due to a meeting exceeding capacity, don’t worry — you’ll be at the top of the list the next week. We try to keep everyone satisfied, and we think we do a pretty good job.
Once you’ve gotten your confirmation e-mail, read up a little background info on the Schmaltz website (so that you sound intelligent) and go find yourself a five-dollar bill! We’ll see you on Wednesday night at 9:00.
