A Young Winos webisode: the Winos make mulled wine
We all know that whites are best served cold, light-bodied reds cool, and full-bodied reds at “room temperature” — but it’s a rare wine that’s best served steaming hot. Enter mulled wine, that delicious holiday libation championed by the British. Spicy and warm, it’s the perfect beverage for those cold winter months (and apparently it flows like water this time of year over on the other side of the pond).
In our second Young Winos episode for EgoTV, my co-host Chelsea Cannelland I attempt to make our own mulled wine… but will our efforts be enough to impress my skeptical English roommate?
The Official Young Winos Mulled Wine Recipe
3 (750ml) bottles full-bodied red wine
6 ounces brandy
6 cinnamon sticks
12 whole cloves (or 1 tsp. ground cloves)
zest from one orange
Combine all items over low heat and cook, stirring constantly, for 20-30 minutes. Strain out all the solid bits and serve the hot liquid to your favorite Englishman.
