We’re well into autumn now, and I can already hear the haters telling me that it’s time to stop drinking white wine. “Summer’s over, bro,” they tell me. “You’ve got to change with the season.” (These are the same people who are also telling me to stop wearing shorts, t-shirts, and shoes with holes in them. What do they know?)
In a way, the haters are right — summer’s definitely over. But that doesn’t mean we have to stop drinking white wines… it just means we have to change the type of white wines that we’re drinking. Ideal white wines for fall are those that feature good structure, a touch of sweetness, and a nice round full-bodiedness. Last week, the LA Times ran an article called white wines to warm up your fall meals, and it’s in the spirit of that insightful piece of journalism that we’ll be conducting this week’s meeting.
For the first time in over a year, the Winos are returning to Vendome Wine and Spirits in Studio City, where we’ll taste a full lineup of fall-themed white wines at Vendome’s awesome tasting bar. The lineup includes a number of varied and unique bottles, including favorites like Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, wacky grapes like Grüner Veltliner, Tokaji, and Scheurebe… and more! As always, Winos who attend will receive a 10% discount off any wines from the lineup that they’d like to buy.
This week’s tasting will be held on Thursday evening, from 8pm to 10pm-ish, at Vendome’s tasting bar. Admission is $12 (credit cards ok), which covers the full lineup of wines, plus cheese and crackers, plus whatever wine is left in the bottles once we’re done. To RSVP, simply click “will attend” on the right-hand side of this page, and I’ll send you a reminder e-mail the day of the tasting.
We look forward to seeing you there!
